Have you ever wanted to become a personal trainer? You love to exercise and want to share that passion and get paid? I did so I took a course held through my local gym September 12, 2016 – November 10,2016.
I attended courses for 9 weeks that would prepare me for the National Federation of Professional Trainers Certification exam. It was a in class 2 times per week plus website to download course material and practice tests. As I went through the course I didn’t keep up with the practice tests. I had a dear friend pass away in early November and missed the last classes, I did continue to study while away but never took the certification test.
As I was taking the course I felt I didn’t have enough practical knowledge of exercises. I had had a personal trainer in 2015 and had the continued desire to stay active and exercise but no formal training in teaching exercises. I didn’t know how to do a proper dead lift myself – how was I suppose to teach someone else! I wasn’t ready to be someone’s trainer so waited to take the certification test.
I have my first client! She feels comfortable talking to me and following my routines. She doesn’t care that I don’t have my official certificate, she just knows that were click.
Since Dec 2016 I have been working at my local gym – women’s only side – as a Fitness Instructor. I instructor ladies on the use of the Nautilus equipment and keep a tracking sheet. This allows them to have a full body strength training program needing only 1 set of exercises, instead of the usual need of multiple sets of a set number of repetitions,
I now have practical experience and knowledge of routines and philosophies. It is now time to take the certification test.
Stop and Think, Then Act
I have heard many times in the last 3 years – Just do it, imperfect action is better than no action. Most of the time this is grand advice because most of the time we hesitate because we don’t think we are ready, and know we never will be. But for me my gut was telling me “Not now”. We need to listen to our intuition – both men and women have it. I now know I am ready to go to the next level.
